Aloha, I'm gerry
I am an Artist.
My path to art was never one of formal study or straight lines. A self-taught creator, My eye was first trained not in a studio, but in the precision of mechanical engineering, a discipline he threw himself into at fifteen with the same intensity he brought to everything. For over two decades, I worked as an airline engineer in Japan, finding beauty in structure, in the poetry of things made to last.
Yet even then, the great masters spoke to me quietly: the relentless, churning waves of Hokusai; the luminous blues and ethereal light of Giotto; the warmth and sensuous touch of Tiziano; the effortless grace of Raffaello; and the architectural poetry of Luigi Vanvitelli, where structure itself becomes beauty. These voices did not teach me what to make, they taught me how to see.
My hands discovered wood, and with it, the quiet joy of creating things that could be held, used, and loved. In 2015, the ocean called me to Oʻahu, where Hawaii's light and water became my permanent studio. I am a surfer whose daily inspiration rises from the sea, a source of joy, a constant teacher, and my playground. To me, the ocean is not merely a backdrop; it embodies the spirit of Aloha.
The pandemic of 2020 opened yet another dimension: painting and digital art, each work a meditation on the island and the sea that defines it.
My practice weaves together craft and technology, intuition and discipline.
An engineer who never stopped dreaming like an artist, brush in hand, I am painting still.
